Peony Garden
Want to enjoy your very own peony patch with beautiful varieties that we grow? Then this two part fall peony workshop is perfect for you. Why? Because fall is when peonies are best planted, we will share all our top growing and planting tips, and provide you with three beautiful peony roots so you can have your very own peony patch!
If booking, you must be prepared to plant the peonies in late October or even early November as the roots are coming from our European supplier.
Join us at the Farm for Part One, featuring hands on learning about peonies, where and how to plant, and how to care for and maintain them through the Saskatchewan seasons so that they thrive. We will teach you everything you need to know about growing peonies, with hands on demonstrations on how to properly plant and care for peonies from the roots, leaves, stems, blooms, and to the buds. We will review common diseases and pests, and how to keep them healthy. We will provide our very own Maybelle Farm amendment mix that we use for planting, it’s our own secret recipe that you add to the soil you plant them in. Enjoy complimentary warm and cozy fall sips as you get to see the gardens up close, and tour the peony rows as well. Please note this is a daytime workshop so that you have full daylight hours for the outdoor portions. This is a special event as the farmyard and peony rows are never open to the public to visit. You will head home full of all the required peony knowledge, ready to select, pre-dig and prepare your three spots for the peony roots you will receive in Part 2 of the workshop. We are holding Part 1 early in the fall so you have lots of time to select and prepare your spots before the roots arrive from our supplier.
Part 2 occurs in late October (may even be early November and date TBD pending shipping), when we receive the peony roots from one of our favorite suppliers. This timing is why you have already prepped your holes after Part 1 as it can get very cold by the time the roots arrive. We will inspect and package up your peony roots and have them ready for you to stop by the Farm to pick up. You will have a three day window for Part 2 to pick up your peonies in. Then head home to plant them right away, using all of the techniques, and the Maybelle Farm amendment mix that we shared in Part 1. The peonies will be three of our favorite and most sought after peony varieties to take home and plant. These won’t be your average big box garden center peony varieties; they are the beauties we bring in for our farm. We will not be advertising the three varieties online; we want these to be exclusive to you as attendees but trust us they are stunning. The full breeding history and specific details for each variety will also be shared during Part 1. You must prepare your holes well before Part 2!
We will provide our own Maybelle Farm amendment mix to add to soil for each root, but you will be responsible for having your own soil and tools to plant your peony within your own yard. Peony roots will be large 3-6 eyed roots, healthy and ready to thrive. Once you take them home, the growing, environmental conditions in your yard, and care is fully your responsibility, as such there is no warranty or guarantee on the roots. By purchasing you accept that we do not provide any warranty or refunds. Directions and additional workshop details will be emailed to you once purchased.
All taxes are included in the visible ticket price already, no extras applied at checkout! Tickets are non-refundable, but you can transfer your Part 1 to another person if we approve prior and all fine print is adhered to. Please note that all workshop attendees must be 14 years of age or older. Outhouses are available. We reserve the right at our discretion to cancel any registrations or the workshop if needed, you will be refunded if that occurs. For Workshop Part 1, closed toe footwear without heels is required, or you will not be allowed to access the farmyard or peony rows. Part 1 occurs rain or shine, so dress for the weather, peonies love the rain!
These workshops are for peony gardeners only and are not open to flower farmers. We want the questions and time in the peonies to be specific to those wanting to learn to grow in a garden setting, not commercially. If you are a fellow flower farmer wanting peony help, please send us a message as we have a separate class planned for flower farmers in the fall where we adjust the content to best suit your needs! Booking for that is via email. Any incorrect booking signups will be cancelled/refunded minus processing fees, registration will be reviewed.
